Special Interests

I am interested in offering people a warm, honest and supportive professional relationship that helps them to identify, understand and effectively deal with areas where they feel stuck in their lives.

By "stuck" I mean that you may feel held back or stopped from living your life to the fullest of your potential by any of the following:

*Unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviour that keep happening over and over and that you struggle to understand and cope with.

*Traumatic events and memories from your past (including abuse as a child).

*Feeling overwhelmed by life and struggling to cope with it.

*Not feeling able to cope with changes in your life

*Struggling or dissatisfied with relationships in your life

*Feeling depressed, down and lacking energy needed to live your life

*Feeling that your life lacks meaning and purpose

In the short term, I aim to teach you skills and offer you tools that will help you to cope and get your life back on track again. Should you decide to work with me over a longer time, we will work together to gain a deeper understanding of where your difficulties come from and how they play out in your life. Most importantly, we will aim to unlock the potential for you to live your life more fully that has been blocked by the difficulties you have been experiencing.

Although I work effectively with both women and men, as a male therapist I have a particular interest in working with men.

Orientation and approach

I have 14 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist working in a variety of settings with a variety of people including:

*People with Psychiatric/Psychological labels like: Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

*Couples and families

*People struggling to recover from traumatic events - sometimes labelled as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

*People with physical disabilities (spinal cord injuries, loss of limb) and life threatening illnesses (eg. cancer)

*Clinical supervision and training for Health Care Professionals (Doctors, Psychiatrists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Trainees) as individuals and in groups.

I have used a variety of approaches and interventions with these people including: Systemic, Psychodynamic, Shock and Trauma Resolution, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

I have also trained and registered in the United Kingdom as a Core Process Psychotherapist. This is a Humanistic Integrative approach to therapy that includes an awareness that each of us is a spiritual being having a unique human experience. This approach includes and understanding of people at a depth beyond their particular limitations and stuckness while also including and working with these limits and stuck places. This form of therapy a also makes strong use of Mindfullness techniques as a way of coping and dealing with difficult emotions and thoughts.

Personal Statement

I am both deeply committed to and enjoy my work with clients. I am also inspired by the power of the healing relationships that form between myself and clients.
