Special Interest : I am interested in offering people a warm, honest and supportive professional relationship that helps them to identify, understand and effectively deal with areas where they feel stuck in their lives.

By "stuck" I mean that you may feel held back or stopped from living your life to the fullest of your potential by any of the following:

*Unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviour that keep happening over and over and that you struggle to understand and cope with.

*Traumatic events and memories from your past (including abuse as a child).

*Feeling overwhelmed by life and struggling to cope with it.

*Not feeling able to cope with changes in your life

*Struggling or dissatisfied with relationships in your life

*Feeling depressed, down and lacking energy needed to live your life

*Feeling that your life lacks meaning and purpose

In the short term, I aim to help you to cope and get your life back on track again. Should you decide to work with me over a longer time, we will work together to gain a deeper understanding of where your difficulties come from and how they play out in your life. Most importantly, we will aim to unlock the potential for you to live your life more fully that has been blocked by the difficulties you have been experiencing.

AND

Fish Hoek
0848040472
Special Interest : At times we may feel stuck or overwhelmed. We may know what is causing unease or pain, but often we struggle to understand the cause. A therapy relationship at these times, can bring better understanding and help you think in new ways about yourself, your relationships and your journey forward.

I work with ADULTS in individual psychotherapy (short and long term) on a wide array of issues, including:

• Depression
• Anxiety
• Relationship difficulties
• Stress
• Trauma
• Major life transitions - leaving home,
pregnancy, divorce, mid-life changes,
career changes
• Parenting
• Death, loss and complicated bereavement
• Ageing - menopause, children leaving
home, moving home, retirement, caring
for elderly parents
• Loneliness
• Illness - Chronic or terminal (of yourself
or a loved one)
• Work stress - Work-family balance, feeling
overwhelmed or unappreciated, disputes
leading to legal processes such as the
CCMA, retrenchment

I work with adults having SLEEP difficulties. Poor sleep can have a profound effect on general wellbeing and mental health. Many people experience sleep difficulties at times because of stress, demanding schedules or specific life challenges. Sleep difficulties are often linked to depression and anxiety. When these difficulties are experienced more frequently and affect the ability to sleep well on a regular basis or interfere with daily life, they may indicate a sleeping disorder. CBT-I is a therapeutic option used to treat insomnia.

I work with STUDENTS. I have extensive experience working with students at UCT – undergraduates and postgraduates – navigating the challenges of life as a student and the academic world. Students often struggle with adjustment to university life, being far from home, feeling lonely or isolated, making new friends, relationship break-ups, social anxiety, identity issues, complex family dynamics, pressure from families, fear of failure and uncertainty around career choices. Students can benefit from support when struggling with attention, motivation, adjusting to and managing increased workloads, procrastination, exam anxiety, oral presentations etc.
I work with young adults feeling uncertain or confused about what to do next. I offer support to school leavers and first years (individually and in groups) to ease adjustment to post-school or university life. Adjusting to higher education can also be particularly daunting to first generation students.

I work with COUPLES. Most people want their relationship to provide a sense of closeness, safety, and enjoyment. I see couples at all stages of a relationship. This could be at times of crisis, when experiencing conflict, or when couples want to strengthen their relationship.

In the short term, I aim to teach you skills and offer you tools that will help you to cope and get your life back on track again. Most importantly, we will aim to unlock the potential for you to live your life more fully that has been blocked by the difficulties you have been experiencing.

Although I work effectively with both women and men, as a male therapist I have a particular interest in working with men.
