Good day all,

I completed my honours degree in industrial
psychology through the University of Fort Hare. The
UFH does not offer guidelines for psychometric
internships and I approached the NMMU, who was
extremely helpful. They, however, are awaiting a
reply from the HPCSA (since March) for permission to
enrol me in their program. I am a member of the
South African Police Service and have everything in
place to start the practical side of the internship,
including a supervisor for the program. Are there
other institutions that offer a similar programme to
the one by Unisa (stumbled upon it after closing
date).

I am at my wits end, because my application for
masters at two universities had been rejected and
that can be attributed to the lack of exposure I had in
the psychological field. Please help

Very few institutions are currently running the BPsych Equivalency program, which Unisa will also no longer be running next year. Running the program requires administrative resources which most universities and colleges lack.

The South African College of Applied Psychology is trying to run this program but is awaiting accreditation from the HPCSA (who knows how long this will take). Training for professionals is in a horrible state in this country and is getting worse by the year, leaving many degreed students with no practical or legal standing to practice. This is so sad.

The only suggestion I have for you in terms of improving your chances for Masters is to volunteer as much as possible and attend as much free counselling training as possible e.g. SADAG, police stations for trauma counselling and Hospices etc.
