But we’re back today, and we have the 26th prospect on the GGN Big Board. The idea here is to build a generic Big Board reflecting the community’s view of this year’s draft class regardless of the Jets’ (or any other team’s) particular needs. So for instance, the Jets do not need a QB this year, but that should not prevent you from placing a QB high on the Big Board. Each day we will close the previous day’s poll and the candidate with the most votes will be added to the GGN Big Board. In the event of a tie vote the tie will be broken by surname in alphabetical order. By the time the draft rolls around we should have enough players on our Big Board to cover two rounds of the draft. In the event I have made an egregious omission and a name you think should be on the poll is not there you can write in candidates in the comments section. If a player gets support in the comments section I’ll add him to the next day’s poll.Try not to get overly frustrated if your guy isn’t being voted to the top of the board. We all have different views and what we’re looking for here is a composite of the best players in the community’s collective mind. Your views may or may not coincide with the community’s, and either way that’s OK.So let’s get to it. Today we vote for the #27 prospect on the 2019 crowd sourced GGN Big Board. Who will it be? Vote early, vote often, and let’s hear who you think are the best players in this draft.Jets Sign Ex-Giants QB Davis Webb To Practice Squad, Cut QB John Wolford The New York Jets have signed ex-Giants quarterback Davis Webb to the practice squad and released quarterback John Wolford to make room for Webb. This appears to be a solid upgrade for the Jets. Wolford did not appear to be anything close to an NFL prospect in his only action with the Jets against the Philadelphia Eagles in the final preseason game of 2018, nor was his college tape promising.Davis Webb certainly looks the part of a Mike Maccagnan quarterback prospect. Originally selected by the New York Giants with the 87th overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft, the 23 year old Webb is a 6’ 5”, 230 pound strong armed quarterback out of the University of California. Webb has had the interesting habit of intersecting with some of the most high profile quarterbacks in the college game. He started his college career at Texas Tech, unseating Baker Mayfield as the starting quarterback, which eventually led to Mayfield’s transfer to Oklahoma. Webb was in turn displaced by Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech, leading to Webb transferring to California, where he was the successor to Jared Goff. That’s a lot of quarterback firepower Webb crossed paths with in a short period of time.Davis Webb was seen by some as the heir apparent to Eli Manning on the Giants, but a regime change brought in Kyle Lauletta this year in the draft, and Lauletta ultimately surpassed Webb on the depth chart. The Giants released Webb and he now finds himself backing up yet another recent college quarterback stud, Sam Darnold.Webb is a raw prospect who struggles getting the ball out on time and making good decisions with the football. He does not read the field particularly well and often locks on to predetermined reads. He will need significant development to become a decent NFL quarterback, but he should at least have a significantly better shot at it than the departed John Wolford.Welcome to the Jets, Davis Webb.
